Class Description:
In this four-session workshop, students will be introduced to the Adobe Photoshop interface, menus, tools, and workflow for basic, nondestructive editing of photographs. “Fundamental Editing” refers to edits that don’t fundamentally change the concept of the original photograph and would include adjusting color, adjusting highlights and shadows, reducing noise, cropping and perspective cropping, and moderate sharpening. We will discuss file formats, history panel, use of layers, global vs local adjustments, basic selection tools, masking parts of the image, and other tools that are most useful. Students should be able to bring a laptop computer (or share a laptop with one other student) that has either a recent version of Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Photoshop Elements. Please contact the instructor with any concerns that you have about having access to a laptop with Photoshop prior to the workshops. The workshop is taught for beginning to intermediate Photoshop users, and plenty of time is allowed to answer student questions. Students will work on both instructor-provided images and student-provided images for the workshop.

BIO
All her life, Kathleen has been drawn to stories, both to narratives in the lives of others and to visual stories in her art. She started photography in a traditional darkroom including formal instruction and degree then moved into the digital era. She has developed her visual curiosity—depicting details and connections to share her vision. After she retired from teaching biological sciences at the college level, she began to teach art and photography classes. Her passion is to help students get the results they desire rather than to simply impart skills. Kathleen enjoys sharing her artwork and the stories behind the work; she is currently represented at two Florida art galleries. She competes at local and regional art shows where she has received numerous awards including multiple best of show awards, and her work is published internationally.
